Sinn Fein leader, Gerry Adams, has called for an end to Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip while calling Gaza an 'open-air prison'.
"What is happening in Gaza is totally and absolutely wrong," Adams said during a recent visit to Gaza on Wednesday.
"This is a total denial of the rights of the people of Palestine. This is an open-air prison," the Sinn Fein leader said. "People cannot travel out of here, they cannot travel in."
During his two-day visit to Gaza and the West Bank, Adams held talks with Hamas Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, with United Nations officials, civil society leaders, and acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas.
He also urged Israel to hold talks with Hamas officials.
Israel launched a full-fledged offensive on Gaza on December 27, because it claimed that Hamas had fired rockets on southern Israel.
Israel killed more than 1,400 civilians during its 22-day war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The regime has also imposed a crippling blockade on the strip, not allowing basic needs such as food, sanitary water, fuel and medicine into the impoverished sliver. Egypt, which also has a border with Gaza, has actively participated with Israel in the blockade.
Adams is the leader of Sinn Fein, the second largest political party in Northern Ireland and the fourth largest in the Republic of Ireland.
