I ran into the problem in a nutshell last night.
You see, there are many kinds of 'believers' in the world. It doesn't really matter what they 'believe', the method is always the same (thanks, Eric).
Now, I'm in an organic farming community.
I was speaking to the local Green Party organizer and newspaper publisher (the one who published that incorrect article about militarization of the ENTIRE WEST COAST!).
I told him that I had a decent article at this point about this radioactive fertilizer stuff.
I prefaced it with the part about the tobacco studies.
He told me that he didn't believe it (that tobacco wasn't carcinogenic).
I told him that was beside the point, that the article was about radioactive ORGANIC fertilizer that was commonly available, even though we know it's hot.
He told me that he didn't believe tobacco wasn't carcinogenic, and so he wouldn't carry that kind of story.
When I tried to point out that this was *not* a matter of belief, but of science (one would presume a geiger counter has no religious affiliations), he stated it again, and made it clear that continuation of that topic would result in his becoming angry.
Thats how news doesn't happen.
Science is often trumped by religion.
