These guys have absolutely gotten it. It's amazing. The inventor simply imagined a horizontally opposed engine's actual movement and built a funny shaped gear set to take advantage of it.
The net result is an engine that has two cylinders bound together by essentially a solid connection (no moving parts in the middle except the driveshaft). It's like two pistons and a rounded lozenge shape gear. There is no longer a 'crank' shaft as there are no longer any cranks.
Very much like the innovation some years back allowing for easy four-wheel steering, actually.
